From Princeton University to Biology Centre

A geneticist Lenka Bittová won a prestigious European reintegration fellowship for scientists returning after a long stay abroad. Last year she came back to the Czech Republic after twenty years in the US, where she worked as a scientist in biochemistry at several prestigious universities - University of Illinois, Stanford University, University of Wisconsin and the last five years she was a Lab Manager at Princeton University.

During her stay at Princeton, Lenka Bittová concentrated on the biology of chromatin (i.e. complex of DNA and proteins forming chromosomes) and epigenetics, which is an emerging branch of modern genetics studying the mechanism governing changes in gene expression.

Lenka Bittová is currently working in the Laboratory of Developmental Genetics at the Institute of Entomology, Biology Centre CAS. The reintegration fellowship under the European section of the Marie Sklodowska Curie Action, which is part of the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation "Horizon 2020" will provide funding for a two-year research project starting from January 2017. Together with Marek Jindra, Lenka Bittová will research modulation of juvenile hormone signaling via phosphorylation of juvenile hormone receptor.
