Libor Grubhoffer was awarded an honorary doctorate

The leading research and educational institution in Upper Austria, the Johannes Kepler University Linz, awarded proffessor Libor Grubhoffer, Director of the Biology Centre CAS, an Honorary Doctorate in Natural Sciences. Prof. Grubhoffer is an important ambassador and supporter of JKU and he is an internationally recognized specialist in biochemistry and molecular biology of ticks and tick-borne diseases. The academic ceremony was held at the Johannes Kepler University in Linz on Tuesday November 20.

Libor Grubhoffer is an important supporter and ambassador of the JKU and he highly supports joint Czech-Austrian academic teaching in modern biotechnology. Eleven years ago, he co-founded the cross-border student program of Biological Chemistry, which is a joint bachelor and master program of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice and Johannes Kepler University in Linz, also supported by scientific staff of the Biology Centre. Linz University also appreciates the scientific achievements of Libor Grubhoffer in the field of biochemistry, in particular in elucidating the molecular mechanisms involved in infection with parasite-borne diseases.

For Libor Grubhoffer, this award is the second honorary title. Two years ago, he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Natural Sciences from the University of Arizona, USA. Since the early 1990s, when he was a postdoctoral fellow in the University of Arizona, he has a close research partnership there. Every year this partnership is confirmed, for example, by the summer student exchange, during which a group of Arizona students spend a two-month training at the laboratories of the Biology Centre working on parasitology research tasks.
