Experimental catchment – a unique research area will enable to study processes in the landscape

Scientists from the SoWa Research Infrastructure of the The Biology Centre of the Czech Academy of Sciences ceremonially opened a unique research area near the village Vintířov in the Sokolov region on October 18, 2019. This is an experimental catchment, which will enable to monitor in detail how key ecosystem processes work in the open landscape. It is the first facility of its kind in the Czech Republic; there are only two similar stations in the world. The author of this new experimental catchment project is professor Jan Frouz, Director of the SoWa Research Infrastructure.

The experimental catchment was built within the project Research of key soil-water ecosystem interactions at the SoWa Research Infrastructure, registration number CZ.02.1.01/0.0/0.0/16_013/0001782, supported from the European Union within the Operational Programme Research, Development and Education.
