City Nature Challenge České Budějovice
The CNC is an annual four-day global bioblitz at the end of April, where cities are in a collaboration-meets-friendly-competition to see not only what can be accomplished when we all work toward a common goal, but also which city can gather the most observations of nature, find the most species, and engage the most people in the event. Started in 2016 as a competition between San Francisco and Los Angeles, the City Nature Challenge (CNC) has grown into an international event, motivating people around the world to find and document wildlife in their cities.
In 2023, 482 cities from all over the world joined the challenge, and during the four-day bioblitz, 66,394 people observed more than 1,8 million organisms. In the Czech Republic, 5 cities will take part in the CNC project: Prague, Brno, Uherské Hradiště, Ostrava and České Budějovice.
City Nature Challenge will start on April 26, 2024, and will last for four days until April 29. Getting involved is very easy. Find wildlife in České Budějovice, take pictures of anything that grows or lives and share it through iNaturalist. Anyone can do it without the slightest scientific education - the application itself recognizes what kind of animal, plant or fungus it is.
