The city of České Budějovice will join the worldwide City Nature Challenge project. In this friendly competitive challenge, cities contest for as many observations of natural diversity as possible. Anyone can get involved; all you have to do is take pictures of the local wildlife from April 24 to 27, 2026. In České Budějovice, City Nature Challenge is organized by the Biology Centre of the Czech Academy of Sciences.

The CNC is an annual four-day global bioblitz at the end of April, where cities are in a collaboration-meets-friendly-competition to see not only what can be accomplished when we all work toward a common goal, but also which city can gather the most observations of nature, find the most species, and engage the most people in the event. Started in 2016 as a competition between San Francisco and Los Angeles, the City Nature Challenge (CNC) has grown into an international event, motivating people around the world to find and document wildlife in their cities.

City Nature Challenge will start on April 24, 2026, and will last for four days until April 27. Getting involved is very easy. Find wildlife in České Budějovice, take pictures of anything that grows or lives and share it through iNaturalist. Anyone can do it without the slightest scientific education - the application itself recognizes what kind of animal, plant or fungus it is.
