My current research focuses on understanding and using arthropod vectors as a model to address two fundamental practical problems: how to combat the public health threat posed by the pathogens carried by these vectors and how the mechanisms adopted by vectors can be translated into treatments for human diseases. This focus has enabled me to establish a strong publication record, attract external funding, and recruit high-quality post-doctoral scientists from abroad. I am an enthusiastic, thoughtful, and supportive teacher, advisor, and mentor to students and group members, and have a particular interest in mentoring and retaining young scientific talent.
