Karel Tajovský, honorary member of International Society for Myriapodology

During the 19th International Congress of Myriapodology in Bogota, Colombia, in August 2023, the General Assembly of the International Society for Myriapodology (traditionally also referred to as the Centre International de Myriapodology – CIM since its foundation in 1968) elected Karel Tajovský, a researcher at the Institute of Soil Biology and Biogeochemistry, as a honorary member of this worldwide society.

The CIM (https://www.myriapodology.org/) founded in 1968 brings together worldwide myriapodologists, i.e. specialists on myriapod arthropods (Pauropoda, Symphyla, Diplopoda and Chilopoda) together with experts in Onychophora, and organizes their meetings at regular intervals within the framework of worldwide congresses. The CIM currently registers over 100 active members.

Karel Tajovský, Megan Short (Deakin University School of Life and Environmental Sciences, Victoria, Australia), and Karin Voigtländer (Senckenberg Museum of Natural History, Görlitz, Germany) were elected to the previously nominated 13 honorary members of CIM.

Karel Tajovský is a long-time member of CIM, from 2002 to 2011 he also worked in its Executive Committee. In addition to research on millipedes and centipedes, he actively participated in the organization of domestic events in this field (Czecho-Slovak myriapodology seminars in 2000, 2006, 2010 and 2015) as well as international conferences (Central European Workshop on Soil Zoology in 1997- 2019) and also co-organized one of the main CIM congresses (16th International Congress of Myriapodology, Olomouc, 2014).
