My research is focused on the field of eco-epidemiology, with a specific interest in zoonotic pathogens that are transmitted to humans via vertebrates and arthropods such as ticks and mosquitoes. The primary focus of my study is on viruses from the Flaviviridae family - Tick-borne encephalitis virus, Usutu virus, West Nile virus, Dengue virus, and Alongshan virus, the genus Orbivirus (Tribeč/Kemerovo virus), and the family Hantaviridae (DOBV, TULV, PUUV, SWSV). In addition, the study encompasses bacteria such as Borrelia, Anaplasma, Neoehrlichia, and Rickettsia genera. I am involved in several projects in the laboratory, with a particular focus on the project Ticks in the City. In the laboratory, I specialise in sterile work with infectious agents in BSL2 and BSL3 conditions. I am experienced in the detection of viruses and bacteria - from the processing of the primal sample (dissection, homogenization, isolation of RNA/DNA) through molecular biology screening and virology methods (PCR, multiplex qPCR, RT-PCR, electrophoresis, plaque titration, virus neutralization tests, immunofluorescence, isolation of viruses in tissue cultures) to the pathogen identification (Sanger sequencing, WGS) and interpretation of phylogenetic realtionships. I am also skilled with tissue cultures, plasmids, and work in the BSL3 laboratory, where I perform experiments with viruses (SARS-CoV-2, West Nile virus, Dengue virus…) and mouse models. I also provide OSH, and BSL2/BSL3 biohazard training for our employees.
